Internships
Monday, December 29th, 2008We are currently looking for a summer intern. See details below. THANKS!
Internship opportunities are available at Appalachia Star Farm. We are looking for 1-2 people (couples are welcome) to live on the farm and assist in all aspects of growing and marketing vegetables. Internships are available from mid-March through October. We are flexible about starting dates and length of stay, however, we would appreciate commitments of at least 2 months. We are also open to other employment possibilities for those who live locally, including full or part-time hourly work. Contact us if you are interested.
What we are looking for:
Singles, couples, or friends who have a willingness to work hard and learn a lot. Most of the work on our farm is done by hand, so there is plenty of physical exertion involved - not to mention all kinds of weather conditions to deal with. However, we have a lot of fun and we enjoy the benefits of working in the outdoors. While we have plenty of on-farm work to do, interns will also have the opportunity to participate in markets, CSA delivery, and farm events. We expect interns to work 5-6 days a week and 8 hours per day. Days off may vary according to the needs of the farm.
What we offer:
- Stipend with bonuses available
- Housing options: Canvas tent on platform plus living space in barn
- Unlimited vegetables from the farm
- Hands-on skills building and educational instruction in all aspects of the farm from seeding, transplanting, weeding, and harvesting to CSA and Farmer’s Market marketing and management.
- Field trips to other area sustainable farms through CRAFT (Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training) of Central Virginia
